Signature Items

In my experience, I have noticed that most geocachers share many of the same tendencies, one of which is to collect things. Whether Geocoins, Travel Bugs, Souvenirs, Treasures, or just smiley's, collecting is definitely an important part of the hobby for many cachers. In fact, for a good number of us, collecting geocaching-related items is in itself another hobby.

Most of these items originated as signature items left in geocaches as a fun way to leave a personal little reminder of your visit to a particular geocache. Over the years, many of them have become collective in and of themselves, from business cards to hand-stamped postcards, plastic toys, bottle caps, stickers, and poker chips. Some geocachers even design and leave very personalized and wonderful geocoins that are not trackable but meant to be taken. I have also read that in some parts of Europe, geocachers create, trade, and collect personalized stickers that are kept in dedicated notebooks - traded at Events, or left in geocaches. I would like to see what these look like.

I have always been partial to pathtags, and have created a dozen or so myself. However, the vast majority of these were traded online and shipped through the postal service, rather than being left in geocaches. And managing the trades is time consuming, in addition to becoming expensive for stamps. I still leave some of these in my most favorite geocaches, and I keep a few in my geocaching bag for when I go to Events, but in general, I just like to see pathtags appear in the wild.

PATHTAGS -

In my experience, Pathtags are a great way to create your own personalized signature item. Many people have them produced in order to leave in geocaches; they are small enough to fit inside a 35mm film canister. They are, however, also often traded through the pathtags.com "Trade Manager" feature.

I have designed and had produced several pathtags, most of which have been traded to zero.
